Which schools?

I have basically completed the aacomas application. I have a 2.98 gpa and a 2.56 science gpa. I have a 29 mcat. I have 2 years group home experience. My last 92 credits have averaged a 3.96 and my last 36 science credits have averaged a 3.97. Where should I apply? Do I have a shot? I live in CT. I plan on applying to OU, UNE, NYCOM, MSUCOM, Nova, Western, PCOM, LECOM, DMU, and WVSOM. Any thoughts on if I should apply to different schools, or if this list is pretty good? Would I have a shot at Kirksville or AZCOM?

I was in your exact same situation. First two years..grades weren't that great...I am talking D's, retakes, etc. However, the last years of college..all A's. The person who interviewed me actually said "Wow..there is definately a story here. Someday, I would like to know what it is." He was generally impressed with my 'turnaround'. However, I prepared for the worst! I shadowed as many docs as possible, got my EMT license, began respiratory therapy training, got a part time job in a hospital doing EKG's, sat in on any surgery I had time for..including orthopedic, baby delivery, gyno stuff, and even an AUTOPSY! I documented ALL OF THIS! When it came time to submit the secondary.........I attached this documentation to it, with Dr.'s names, dates, procedures, etc. I had a full page of medical exposure (besides my job and things I saw at the hospital all the time). This is what really impressed the adcom.

I admitted during my interview that I knew I had to do all of those things to make up for my first few years of college. Long story short...I got in to my first choice-KCOM.
Oh, and my MCAT was two days after I had my appendix removed..the scores weren't the best. So....if in doubt..study study study..and get that experience! It really does help. Good luck.

thebeyonder, that list seems to be good choices for you.... Looks like you have a good chance too!!! Good Luck!!!

Is KCOM and AZCOM first choices for you and is that why you are asking? Or just interested?

Not too hard at all actually. Just go down to your local Community College or Vo-Tech and enroll in the next EMT class available. I warn you now though...it's addicting!

i seriously hate..and i mean hate to tell people what they can and cant do, but i would like to warn you about MSUCOM. unless you are a michigan resident, or show very strong ties to the state of michigan, then basically its super duper tough to get in. and usually the people that get in are from the state of california with stronger credentials than you, but who knows anything is possible. best of luck
