  1. Pre-Medical
Hey guys, I just got my MCAT scores today, so I'm going to post my stats and see what you guys think I should do. I'm sorry that this is long, but I think I have a pretty unique situation.

Undergrad GPA will be around 3.05
MCAT 28Q WR:10, PS:9, BS:9, Q

A little about me:
GPA: I was sick most of undergrad, had to go to hospital over 50 times within one year at one point in time due to kidney failure. Due to my medical problems, I became depressed and didn't really do school until the end of junior year. Cumulative gpa for freshman and sophomore years was about 2.5...
At the end of my junior year, everything got resolved, and I got a 3.7 second semester of junior year. I am currently a senior and will hopefully be getting a 4.0 both semesters, I am capable of doing that now that all my health problems have been resolved (I got the highest grade in the class on my last two exams, no exam score below 95 yet this semester).

MCAT: Ouch... That's all I can say. I just got my MCAT scores back about 15 minutes ago and that hurts. I was consistently scoring 33-34 on my practice exams, so I don't really know what happened, I'm pretty dissapointed and think I may retake in January.

ECs:
Volunteered 180 hours at a hospital by my house.
Worked about 100 hours with spinal surgeon, shadowing, etc.
Worked in a lab at Northwestern for three months.
Published twice, once as 2nd author, and once as 4th author.
President of a public health initiative club at my university for two years.
Volunteered with an international health organization and travelled to Honduras four times to work with doctors.

Where I was looking to apply for SMP before I got my MCAT score:
Cincinnati
Drexel
Temple
Georgetown
BU (Currently Attending)

I would really prefer a 1 year program where I would be taking classes with medical students, please help me out. I feel that I have a pretty unique situation, and I really hope that schools will understand.

Thank you,
Krab

I'm really looking for any and all ideas and advice, and would appreciate whatever comments you guys and gals may have!

I'm seeing my advisor in about two weeks, but she told me before that she doesn't really know too much about SMPs, so I would like to hear from those who have experience.

I guess the things that I'm really worried about are:
1) My MCAT score, 28Q: should I retake it?
2) Will the schools take into account why my gpa is low?
3) Will the schools consider the upward trend in gpa? Pretty much from a 2.5 to a 4.0 over one semester.
4) I feel that I have great ECs, and my LORs will be really good (I have a few professors that volunteered to write me LORs).

Please help me out!

Thank you,
Jake

how is BU your alma mater when you're still in college? your MCAT's not going to kill you for SMPs probably, though it would be wise to retake down the line. i know a few kids at BU that have below 30.
