Hi!

I’m applying this cycle as a NC resident with a high GPA and high vet experience in SA, moderate animal experience in SA, wildlife, equine, and low experience elsewhere.

Any advice on choosing schools to apply to? Right now I have NCSU, UC Davis, WSU, and Purdue, mostly based on price. I’m wondering what other schools to apply to and having a hard time picking them out. I know a lot of places want you to have lots of LA vet experience also (like UF?), so I’m trying to cater schools towards what I have, although I may get more experience over the summer. Any advice?

What specifically do you mean by a high GPA? A 4.0 or 3.9 vs a 3.7 are all fairly high but recommendations may change. There’s an example post that provides a template for listing your stats so we can really evaluate and make the best recommendations.

With the new loan restrictions/limits, I would potentially consider just trying at your in-state one time and then consider going OOS if that doesn’t work out. Yes it might mean a gap year, but you’re very lucky that your IS is one of if not the cheapest schools so I’d do everything you can to get in there. If you do want to apply OOS, I would prioritize costs, especially if your GPA truly is high. I’d focus on the schools that let you change residency and thus get instate tuition…you have a couple of those on your list but not all, so I’d maybe add Missouri. If you give more info we may be able to make more suggestions.

Thank you! I previously made a post in the WAMC group if that helps (I believe you recommended a few!), but I have had a 4.0 GPA all throughout college. I’d like to cast my net fairly wide (~8 schools?), since if I don’t get into NCSU and I do get in somewhere else, I would likely go. Obviously NCSU would be my best bet, but there’s no guarantee, and I’m hoping to get in somewhere on my first cycle. WSU is my second choice.
