I've been planning out my schedule from now until graduation, and I'm wondering which upper-level biology courses would be best for me to take.

Due to all the dental pre-reqs (including Biochemistry) and my major reqs, I only have room for 2 upper level biology courses at this time. My pre-prof advisors are recommending that I also take Cell Biology and Human Physiology.

I just wanted to ask some of yall on here what your opinions are. Which two upper-level bio classes would be best to take? Are Cell Bio and Human Phys good, or should I take something else? I know a lot of people say to take Anatomy, but my advisor told me not to bother with that...

Thanks!

I would say yes to human phys and cell. Does your school offer histology? If so that's another I would check out. As far as anatomy goes...I would take it if I could, but if you really wanted to, you can study anatomy on your own and still learn a lot without having taken the class. I think that would be a little harder with cell, histo, or phys. Just my 2 cents....good luck!!

Nah, no Histology. We've got Microbio, Genetics, Endocrinology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Molecular Bio.... Pretty much everything except Histology.

I don't mind studying Anatomy on my own, but I thought it was a pre-req at some schools.

That I don't know about....it may be at some schools, so I would def. check on the schools you plan on applying to before making that call. Another option may be to take phys and cell, then do anatomy over the summer if it's a prereq. I thought having cell was a big help for biochem and the DAT's so if you could get that in before those (if you haven't already do them) would be a big help as well.

According to an admissions person from UOP, they look for what they call the “fab five,” giving preference to otherwise equal students who have taken: Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Biochemistry, Microbiology.

So in my opinion take one of these.
