Hello everyone,

I am hoping to apply to Romanian Medical Schools for this years entry (2008). I am aware that there are already existing threads on SDN regarding The Faculty of Medicine in Oradea University. But I think none of it answers my question.

Is it really true that most US states look up California's list of recognized international medical schools? If not then could anyone please list down the US states that accept the English Medicine Program (6 Year) offered in Oradea University, please?

all I know is that Oradea University:

is WHO listed;
is ECFMG certified;
that students can take the USMLE examinations.

I eventually want to practice as a Child Psychiatrist anywhere in the US (preferably in a city), and I believe that Psychiatry is one of the least competitive specialties (but of course, it would not guarantee me anything).

Also, could anyone please do the same thing as The "Carol Davila" University Of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania.

I know that these Romanian Medical Schools will not prepare me for the USMLE examinations but some who have graduated there have managed to get a place in the US so it's not impossible to do.

Please. Any help, suggestions and kind advice would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.🙂

I've never heard that. Each state licensing board makes its own decisions regarding which programs are acceptable. See http://www.fsmb.org for a list of the medical boards that you can contact for information regarding the school you are considering.

States don't "accept" schools, but rather may prevent grads from certain schools from obtaining a license in that state. A central list does not exist. Please contact the state medical licensing boards in US states in which you might consider residency to see if this school meets the requirements.

all I know is that Oradea University:

is WHO listed;

WHO does not list schools anymore. To be ECFMG certified, your school must be on the IMED FAIMER list. Check this link for info on the government agency that must recognize your school in Romania and follow the links to IMED: http://www.faimer.org/orgs.html

is ECFMG certified;

ECFMG does not certify schools or medical programs. Certification is a function of completing all the tasks required by the student...attending a school listed on IMED, passing USMLE Steps 1 and 2, etc.

that students can take the USMLE examinations.

This is meaningless. The ability to take the USMLE has NOTHING to do with the quality of education, or whether or not your school will be recognized in the US.

Hope this helps.

I appreciate your reply, Winged Scapula. Many thanks!

Looks like I would need to contact the individual US States then through phone as they cannot be contacted through e-mail.

Yeah, Oradea University is on the IMED/FAIMER list thankfully.
