Does anyone know if the white coat ceremony for vet school is held the first year or the third year?

Just curious!!

It depends on the school. Auburn does it in the spring of your third year, right before you go into clinics.

I'm pretty sure Western does it first year, during orientation week, but that is because you start seeing patients your first year at Western...so it makes sense.

OSU is the spring of your third year before you go into clinics.

UTK does it the last day of orientation. We spend some time in clinics starting 2nd year.

Hey, I didn't know other schools had white coat ceremonies, too! Neat! 😀

Ross does it first semester, first day of classes. Personally, I think it makes no sense, but it's supposed to be welcoming you to the profession. Then the next day you use the coat in anatomy lab and it gets gross! 😎

I believe that, and correct me if I'm wrong, A&M does theirs at the end of the first year. At Tufts they mentioned that they hold theirs during third year.

Mizzou's White Coat Ceremony is in October of your 3rd year.

VMRCVM is first year. I think it is so funny that they present you with this beautiful clean white coat...and then over the years you get so much blood and guts and formaldehyde on it...tee hee

1st year at NCSU

ISU does it the first week of first year as part of orientation

Ok...this is what we were told about the white coat ceremony.... it is a traditional welcoming to the profession..blah...blah...blah......and more and more schools are doing it sooner rather than later.

Western as was stated by Pomona holds it after orientation week. To be exact it is the first Sat. after orientation because you start seeing your patients and clients on Tuesday of the first week.

Anyone know when it is for CSU?

I was hoping Penn was first year too....that means I have to pass 2 years of tests first! Wahh...let the whining begin!

BOOO!!!!

I thought everyone in medical and veterinary school did it first year... that's so lame 👎

lol, I just wanted SOME sort of photo op to invite my parents to... anyone know if there's an open house or any kind of ceremony in the beginning for parents to come to?

And anxwaiting, are you on the facebook group? Or the blackboard site? 🙂

I prefer it to be 3rd year (or before clinics). It is a nice reminder of the fact that you are now caring for patients and will be regarded by others in that way. It's a celebration of the work you've accomplished and the fact that you made it to clinics.

Penn's is 3rd year, like was said above. Its in November a week or so before Thanksgiving. It's very nice because it was almost the end of core and was one of the last times our entire class will formally be together before our graduation next year. You appreciate it a helluva lot more, too, having busted your tail for 2 1/2 years for the right to get those coats.

We actually get two coats, embroidered with our names and the vet symbol and Penn. They're for clinics (definitely not anatomy lab!) 🙂

There is a "Parents and Partners" day in late September/early October of your 1st year where you family comes and theyre told what all you're doing and they get tours of VHUP and NBC, etc. They get a chance to meet a whole bunch of people, buy a ton of Penn Vet stuff, and learn why you don't have time to talk to/see them anymore 😉

Yayyy!!!! And you made the white coat ceremony sound awesome too 😀

At the UIUC, there is a blue coat ceremony first year, and then a white coat ceremony entering clinical rotations at the end of third year.

UTK's white coat ceremony is the weekend of orientation. We also have a scrubbing in ceremony right before clinics where they typically present the 3rd years with an embroidered scrub top for clinics.

oooh... I didn't know about the scrubbing in ceremony...

Mississippi State has a blue coat ceremony at the very beginning of the first year and a white coat ceremony, I think between the second and third year.

At University of Illinois ( UIUC ), the ceremony is right after the final exams of the Spring semester of the third year.
This year is on 04/19/2011 for the class of 2012. Congratulation to class of 2012.
