ive seen some good and bad reviews about the kaplan. "my friend said it sucked" but who actually took it? and wah did you think of it?
based on previous post.. it all depends on your learning style. and well.. lets just say im one of those kids who hates goin to class and hardly ever goes. so im not sure if kaplan class will work out too well for me.
BUT.. bcoz i havent taken O.chemII yet. i feel like i SHOULD take it. how was the O.ChEM in the class? dont tell me they jsut read off the book. cuz then ill just save my $1300 and study on my own.

I took the online version of the kaplan class. I scored 22/21/22 and kaplan was the major part of my studying. I thought the online course was very good and the materials and practice tests the provide are great. Is it worth the money?...I would say yes since I got the scores I wanted, but yeah, you can learn the stuff on your own. I liked the kaplan class because it gave me structure to my studying and lots of practice tests and quizes. I would recommend the class to most people, but if you plan on skipping classes or you don't learn well in class then obviously don't waste your money. As for the O-chem - I squeeked by on college with B's, but I got a 25 on that section on the test. I thought the o-chem on the test was very basic and kaplan more than prepared me for it.

Are you taking ochem II this next semester? If so, just wait and take the DAT in the late spring/early summer. Otherwise, yeah Kaplan will probably prepare you for it or you could try kaplan's organic review class, or try and learn it on your own.

If you plan on studying on your own below are some other materials you might want to consider:

Kaplan blue book - not the same materials you get from the class, but a good basic book.
Top Score - a great set of practice tests on CD.
Schaum's Biology - a good bio review book.
DAT Destroyer - everyone seems to recommend, but I didn't know about it until after I took the test.

I took the class, and I really think I should have just saved my $1k. They really just read from a lesson book they hand out, I did not really like it. I suppose if you need a strict outlined schedule to study you can use Kaplan, but I was stronger in some areas, and weaker in others, thus when I would study one subject and come to class they would review another I was trying to keep it all organized.

Personally, the DAT achiever, Topscore, Kaplan Blue Book are all pretty good, and save you $1k.

Unfortuantely I did not score as high as I'd like to, so I'm retaking it soon. I just got the DAT destroyer the other day and so far I like it.

The problem with the class is that many of the teachers aren't that good. My teacher was really smart and really knew the in's and out's of the DAT so he was able to fully prepare us.

The class materials were top notch in my opinion. The Lesson book, work book, notecards, and all the on-line tutorials and practice quizzes/tests really help to prepare you. That being said, I would pass on the class and take the online version instead. I believe you get all the materials as the class, but you just don't meet twice a week.

I got a 20/20/18 on the DAT...if that means anything.

Hey!!
I'm new here...
But, I'd like to share my knowledge with you regarding the Kaplan course. I took the MCAT classroom course which sucked big time...all of the teachers that I had either didnt have a clue as to what they were teaching us...or didnt know how to answer our questions..either ways..it wasnt worht the time...
A friend of mine took the DAT Kaplan course n said that it sucked big time too...
But I'd definitely like to add that it really depends on what teacher you get. If you get lucky you might get a great teacher...but the chances are minimal...
BUT....
The Kaplan books and the material that they offer online is extremely helpful. So, i'd highly recommend you to use their book and the materials for the prep!

Good Luck!!🙂

I also took the Kaplan class. It was expensive, but I think it helped alot. The material that Kaplan provides is based on DAT style questions and the areas they discuss are those that the DAT will most likely cover. My instructors were very helpful and knowlegable. But if you have doubts about the instrutors ability, I would suggest talking to someone who took the Kaplan class in your area in regards to the instructors. Kaplan really helped me with PAT and organic. Kaplan does a good job by structuring a study schedule and providing expansive testing material (I mean they give ALOT of practice tests/quizzes/DATs). I would strongly suggest Kaplan.

It sounds like the quality of the Kaplan course depends on the person teaching. Where did you take these classes at?(which city)
