Seriously...who really cares? Why stress? Whats done is done...nothing you can do about it now...being nervous and anxious is a waste of energy. No sense in getting everyone around your worked up...the sheer fact that there is a countdown is pretty over the top. Everybody should just relax....i'm probably going to get crucified for posting this, but everybody take it easy...realize you did what you could.

I agree- thinking about it just harbors anxiety.

If people worried and felt anxious because they thought it was productive, that would be some rad advice. 👍

However, often times anxiety stems from not being able to *do* anything about a situation. So acting neurotic and posting countdowns can actually be soothing to the psyche because it gives the illusion of 'doing something', in which case it actually does become useful thereby rationalizing irrational behaviors. So viva la neuroses! Viva la countdown! Viva la utility! 😀

Speak for yourself!!!

Its up there because it serves as a stress reliever and has some humorous posts. It gives people in the same boat a chance to interact with each other and know they aren't alone if they are worried about their scores. But thanks for the equally worthless post.

For those of us out of college and in the working world, nobody around us is stressing about exams or applications (with the exception of the occasional job transfer). But by and large you feel pretty isolated from the premed world, and it's really nice to be able to hop on the countdown and chat with others going through the same process.

Exactly!!

Trust me - I don't spend every waking hour worrying about my score. Some days I don't even think about it. When I do think about it, though I feel sick to my stomach. The worst part of any exam for me isthe wait to get the grade. It done, you can't do anything about it, and that really bothers me. The countdown thread is good to chat with people who are in the same boat.

So OP - If you don't need the thread, don't read it. It's really not hard to do.

I like the countdown thread in moderation. It makes me feel more normal when I see that everybody else is freaking out about their scores also.

To the OP, this is exactly it. If you're in college still, you have plenty of people around you that are in the same boat and plenty of pre-med neuroses everyday.

For those of us a few years out of college, we can talk with other pre-meds (instead of driving our spouses or our non-med friends CRAZY) about how we're waiting for that damn score. 😀

How's post this helpful???? I'm pretty sure everyone on here knows they can't change their scores, but trying to relax is easier said then done. So in a way, the countdown is serving to remind others that they aren't alone and helping relieve the stress more then posting what you did.

I'm arguing that its not calming people down or providing a medium for them to vent their frustration, i'm saying its only increasing their anxiety...but then again i can't speak for everyone else

And my point is that it is helping to calm some people down. If you'd read the other posts above by people like Oxeye you'll understand that.

What is true for yourself is not true for everyone.

You might wanna work on your delivery. 😀 😉

Things always come across as far more agro sounding in type. I get your point about it making things worse but everyone is different. I personally enjoy making msyelf insane. It's like a little pre-med thrill. :meanie:
