Hey all - just wondering if everybody here is the ideal student, or if there are indeed others like me, that need the impending knowledge of a huge test to really buckle-down - i.e. - I have studied for the last 3 weeks, but not as hard as I should have - now, with 15 days before my exam, I am indeed going HARD......anybody else do that/see that going t happen for them? did you survive? lol 🙂

Me.

I took my sweet time in the beginning on stuff like behavioral sci/psych/biostats, biochem, genetics, CMB, and embryo. By the time I started path, I had something like 3 weeks left, and I hadn't even started my micro, immuno, pharm, or physio review. I only got through about 2/3 of UW, because I took the time to carefully read every explanation. This is what really slowed me down - reading the answers to all of those biochem/embryo/BS questions, and annotating my copy of FA. By the time I was finished with those subjects, I had to re-route my study plan to incorporate pharm, phys, anatomy, and micro into my systems review. 48 hours out, I still had most of neuro, a whole pile of pharmcards, and micro/immuno to get through, and a few sections in FA that I felt pretty weak in.

I really wish that I had had the time to do those UW Qs that I missed - I hardly did any neuro, micro, endo, derm, MSK, or immuno questions. Instead, I used my "question time" on those last days to read those sections in FA. (I left endo, derm, and MSK for last, because that was our last block of the year, and thus the freshest in my mind...neuro was a fluke. I should have started that section earlier.) I just ran out of time.

But I think I passed, and that's all I care about at this point.

based on your experiences, what would you say is the ideal amount of study time. I think I can squeeze in 4 weeks. It seems that with any more than that, knowing that you have more time will lead to procrastination?

I had 6.5 weeks, but really only started banging it out on the back 4. If you skipped all of the extra crap that I did that isn't really necessary, you can probably get away with 4-5 weeks. If you want to get through all of UW (and actually READ the explanations), all of FA, and all of RR Path, you will need, at a bare minimum (no break days, studying 12+ hours a day), probably about 4 weeks. If you'd like to also spend some time looking at pharmcards, CMMRS, biochem, HY anything, etc, you're probably looking at 5-6 weeks total.

I would strongly suggest limiting the hell out of your resources - I tried to read too many review books. Definitely try to get through all of FA, RR Path, and UW, as well as a set of flashcards for both pharm and micro. If you have time, then cover CMMRS, HY BS, BRS physio (esp the respiratory, cardio, and renal ch's), anatomy, biochem.
