Okay here i go.....i started my first year of college and decided to take calc 1 and 2 and got C in both of them🙁 but when it came to chemistry i pulled off A's in both of my semesters🙂(gpa 3.33). I'm planning to go to UCI next year and i was wondering:
1) is math much more important than chem when it comes to application reviews?
2) Are first year grades looked down on when later one shows an upward trend?

ps: Calculus is a gpa killer when it comes to the first year of college😡

oh yeah i also worked for a year at a pharmacy environment

1) I would say chem is probably more important to adcoms.
2) Upward trends in grades are always better than a downward trend.

I haaaaate calculus but I HAVE TO DO IT!!! AND I WILL!!!

haha it sucks too when the professor is wacko and loves to miss class every other week🙂

Hey, foxy !
Hey!!!
How are you? to the OP Yeah, Calc killed my grade the first non ESL semester. Still struggling to bring that up almost 2.5 years after.

Did any of you have to take a prereq class before taking calculus? I'm taking trigonometry now and calculus in the fall...and if it's anything like it now, then I'm a bit worried!

I am cool thanks. Good to see you I rarely come here now these days. 😍

Calculus does have trig in it......i took trig and precal in high school..maybe that is the reason i didn't do so well in calculus because i had forgotten all my trig

I HATE CALC

thank god I took care of it in High school.

Oh man, calc 2 basically killed me. I can not remember anything we did last term. Or the reason we did them. I remember thinking, "why do I care what the surface area is of this object of infinate length." So I blew the course off and crammed in the last minutes before the test.

:scared: Yeah, I am screwed for calc 3!!:scared:

yeah i feel for ya....i think I'm going to hold off calculus 3 just to keep sane lol.🙂 or maybe not take it at all since i don't really need to for pharmacy. I just did it because i was a chem major, but switched to bio🙁

Heyy, since u're comin to UCI, I am a calculus tutor and organic chemistry tutor for LARC (learning and academic resource center). Let me know if ya need help. 🙂

i never like calculus but i pulled off an A in cal 1. I must say calculus is very very useful, way way more useful than any other math there is. Its good to learn it right and known it. I sound like a professor but damn calculus is everywhere in this world.

What, you are too good for us lowly pre-pharms now?

Just kidding.

You know, you should check out the "What do SDNers sound like?" thread. I mention you in it.

Hehehe, that's right, too good !

No, I am just crazy busy and haven't had time to finish my applications, so I don't come here often, because it makes me feel bad and like I am seriously behind. ( which I am BTW ! )

I don't look Russian apprently either, check out Drs. Lounge picture reicarnation thread if you wanna see what I look like. :luck:

To make sure I don't kill this thread with my offtopic:

I know plenty of applicants that got in with multiple C's, so as long as you do great in your other classes, there is definitely still hope ! :luck:

If my schedule were letting me, I'd take Calculus III

It's not that hard, just do all of the practice problems.

I hated Calculus. I was taking it at CC with the most god awful teacher. He never taught it before, and let's hope he never does again. I ended up getting robbed in the parking lot of this school, it was a night class. And I quit going because I was sort of traumatized. I then took calculus at the university and this teacher was soooo good. It all made sense. I believe having a good base in trig is KEY to your success in calculus. You use a lot of it and it will only hold you back if you don't know it. Make sure to really understand trig before taking calculus.

pm me if you ever have any calculus Questions....😀

I loved Calculus. I don't know what you guys are bitching about. Statistics is what sucks.

Calc sucked
Stats wasn't too bad
but I am dreading PHYSICS! 😱

Calculus based or Algebra based?

Loved Calculus
Loved Physics
Love Statistics

I think it also depends a lot on your professor. My Cal 1 professor was very good at teaching the material and so everyone got a good grade if they tried hard. My cal 2 professor on the other hand, was the complete opposite and no matter how hard you tried, it was very difficult to understand what he was saying. Plus, he would test us on the most random things that he didn't even teach.

Then it shouldn't be that bad. Just be sure to do all of the practice problems at the end of the book a bunch of times.
