Who Here is Choosing a DO School Over an MD Acceptance?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was accepted to AUC but if I get into the DO school I'm interviewing at next week I suppose I'll go there.

Haha this is technically choosing DO over MD, though probably not what the OP meant.

That's interesting. What do you mean by "4 years of work"? Most state's have loan forgiveness programs for physicians that are willing to practice in under served areas and there are other programs for this as well.

I am just curious as to what LECOM is offering. Also, be mindful that if the program is "being set up", it's not a done deal at this point and, while I am sure it will go through, there is the chance that it won't.

Either way, good luck to you.

It's just working for 4 years, receiving full pay, while they pay off the loans. It's a little different because this is through the hospital itself. It is in an underserved area, and they already receive some government funding. They have already had about 3 go through the program. It's not through LECOM itself.

Oh, I see. So it's basically staying on at LECOM and treating an underserved patient base for four years?

If you end up not happy with this option, keep in mind that there are lots of other programs out there like this.

No it's not at LECOM it's in TN. I wanna get out for a while, but my wife wants to come back eventually.

Its a tricky situation. NHSC is a lot more lackluster if you don't apply while in school. Your service could total almost 10 years versus 4. Also, some states, such as mine only pay about 25% of total debt.
