I'm 27, starting pharmacy school in august and my wife is pregnant. So I will have a kid while in all four years of pharmacy school. I was just wondering who else out there has a child while in pharmacy school and if so what is some advice/pointers?'

thanks

CONGRATS!
Kids are awesome.
my wife had our first during my last year of rotations (P4 year), so I somewhat understand your concerns.

Let me encourage you to say that it's totally possible. I graduated with pharmacists who had multiple children.
I believe the key to their success is supreme time management. You must be able to manage all your free time (your kid's naps) into study time. My wife stayed at home which was essential for my success, but your family may have a different plan.
I HIGHLY recommend a book called "Babywise". It changed our lives. It teaches how to have your baby sleep thru the night.
I was skeptical at first, but by 6 weeks, our newborn was sleeping 9 hours straight!

In short, yes you can become a pharmacist with a kid as Lon as you manage your time wisely.

I'm in the same boat. Wife is pregnant and this is my first year. She is going to stay home and quit her job when the baby arrives. We are going to be living off my loan leftovers and what I will be making during internships. We live in a pretty cheap city so it will be no problem.

As for studying, I will be doing most of it at school on weekdays since I'm pretty sure a screaming baby is going to be a distraction. Weekends will be family time, maybe with a little studying if I really need it.

I am. I got pregnant during my sophomore year in undergrad but managed to graduate only one semester late (took a semester off while the baby was born so I could breastfeed and we could bond. I also don't think I would have been able to function in school during the newborn stage with the no sleep and all). It's all about time management. If you have any time between classes, do not use it for lunchtime, use it for studying, as you will not be able to do so while your child is home unless they are asleep. Also allow for plenty of family time. For me that means no studying after school and none during weekends (I have pulled a lot of all nighters so get be prepared for that as well). Overall it's definitely doable, you'll just have to work a bit harder than the others, but it is all worth it.
Congrats.

with having to support your family off of only loan leftover, are you worried about how much loan debt you will accumulate just from living expenses alone?

very impressive!

My daughter is 1 years old. I'm applying this year. I think the worst is over because while I was taking my prereq's me and my wife were barely even sleeping. Now that she's sleeping through the night, I'm good.

I forgot to mention that my mother in law is living with us and she is paying half the rent. I go to a pretty cheap school, my loans after graduation wont go over 100k. And I have a pretty decent savings account just in case.

First of all congrats.

I'm currently in pharmacy school and I have three kids. One kid shouldn't impact you really in any way. It kinda sucks for me cause I'm in a three year program so I'm spending the majority of mine time studying since it's so fast paced. There is many times when I'm studying when I wish I could spend more time with them and/or the wife, but I'm doing this for them so I just keep pushing thru.

You'll be just fine with one child and in a four year program.

Sounds like you have a great situation set up for yourself

Man, I have to say I am impressed. I sometimes wish I got into a three year school, but I guess I'll have some of the summers. Are you just living completely off of loans as well to support your fam?

Unfortunately, I am, but everyone is.
