Who NOT to talk to when you have to call the MCAT people

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I recently had sent an e-mail to MCAT asking to clarify how the curve works. I had marked the e-mail to notify me when it was read. I received a notification telling me that my e-mail was deleted before being read! I am very pissed and I intend to call and talk to the supervisor directly. I think sometimes it's us who need to be mean to them because we are their clients and pay a lot of money for the test. The least they could do is at least act as if they give a damn about our questions.

It may be their spam filter that caught your email, which was subsequently deleted. They are probably bombarded with thousands of emails and they have to implement something to filter their incoming emails.

For this reason, I would call them directly.

You can do that? How?

Don't talk to "Quinn". He is mean and unhelpful.

I haven't spoken with ONE person from AMCAS who hasn't fit that description.

yeah, i sent them 4 emails in the last 10 days. No replies. I had to call them.

i doubt it's their spam filter. They are the laziest and most inept organization I have ever come across. When you have that many people applying to medical school, you make plans to hire enough employees to take care of that. Don't forget how much money we pay them. Unfortunately, we need them, which means we have to put up with anything they throw at us.

Personally, I think they are the biggest disgrace to U.S. medicine, but that's just me. It is people like them that make this process more complex than it should be. It should not be that way.

the AMCAS support ppl are terrible. i called earlier asking if they received my transcript since it was mailed a week ago. I wasn't asking if they verified my grades with it yet, I know they haven't since it says so on my AMCAS site. i just wanted to make sure they RECEIVED the transcript to make sure my school actually sent it. after hearing his answer, I realized the only info he had on me was the same thing I was looking at on my screen. the support honestly sound like college students, like ourselves, who are working minimum wage jobs. they aren't actually told much and can only answer very basic questions.

as for emailing AAMC about MCATs, I actually did email them a complaint about my real test. you're supposed to send your complaints as a hand-written letter, but i actually did get a response typed out by someone telling me to do so. it wasn't automated. it did take like a week for the response. i was still impressed I got a reply, though.

dang...you guys must have had some bad run-ins.
I called AMCAS twice. Once to ask 8 questions about my application. And once more to ask about MED-MAR.
On both occasions, I found the customer service to be very friendly and helpful (despite the long periods of time I was put on hold).

Yeah, I thought so too. Of course, my questions were just concerning policy, so I guess they weren't really that difficult.

OK, it turned out that they did read my e-mail. They apologized to me and said that it must be their automated system. Today I received yet another message saying that my unread e-mail was deleted even though I have already received a response. I am glad they are not as bad as I thought.
