After looking through the thread Do ADCOMS Check Your Dental Experiences? I saw that someone posted that there 5-10 people who assess applications in the admissions office and that it's unlikely they will care enough to confirm unless there is something major.

It got me thinking, if there are only 5-10 people who (initially?) assess applications, who actually reads the personal statements?
Most are long and I would expect it to take at least some time to get the gist of what the personal statement is about.

Does anyone know who actually reads the personal statements?

I think they might skim through the personal statement of potential students that might be invited for interview just to be sure they invite the right person
However, at the interview, the interviewer will read the personal statement to get background informations. That person also might ask a few questions about things described in the statement

another thing to consider is... they probably read the personal statement after looking at your status. Like, if you have a 2.0 GPA, I don't think they'll read further.

as far as WHO actually reads them? I have no idea, most likely the same committee members who conduct interviews, make decisions whos accepted / rejected / waitlisted etc.

From what I understand, some schools have minimum criteria that you must meet before they take a look at your application. Other schools actually review every application that they receive. That's why its important to have an interesting personal statement. Can you imagine having to read hundreds of them? 😴
