Why Apply Early?

Hey every1, I'm not saying apply late (AADSAS is reaaaal slow), but if candidate A applies early and Candidate B who is more qualified applies late but still on time, are dental school going to reject candidate B and accept candidate A? See I applied my AADSAS late (OCT 6), and I am afraid that there wont be enough time for schools to interview me. Are interviews mandatory?

Schools start sending out acceptance letters on DEC 1st. If you haven't interviewed at a school before, let's say, Nov 25th. Chances are you won't get in there. Lets say candidate B, a slightly less qualified candidate than you submitted aadsas early and got an interview in september or october. His chances of getting in are way higher than yours just because he interviewed at the school.
It's true that outstanding candidates will get in even if they apply late, but there will be less opportunity.

Most schools are on rolling admissions and hand out acceptances as the application period progresses (they wont wait until everyone has been interviewed and pick the best people). so even if someone was highly qualified, if they applied very late, their chances are reduced dramatically when compared to someone not so qualified but applied early. most schools require interviews too, except for maybe a few. 🙂

True, dental schools are not supposed to notify candidates of acceptances prior to December first, but by all means that does not mean that dental schools don't make admissions decisions prior to that point. Many dental schools have already compiled an acceptance and a waitlist prior to December first. Those that get their application in have to contend with the fact that a slew of applicants have already come before them and spots are already being held for them. Furthermore, some dental schools (such as Case) do prize early applicants as it demonstrates your level of commitment and eagerness to enter the profession. AADSAS should get your application out sometime mid to late November (hopefully sooner), but keep in mind that dental schools will be closed for Thanksgiving and Winter breaks and, as a result, any interviews you receive will probably be past December 1st and well into January and Feburary. You still have a chance, don't get me wrong, but time is not really on your side.

that is not entirely true, i did not interview at michigan until early febuary and got in.

also, i do not know of schools who don't have some kind of interview process. however, i have been wrong many times before.

Creighton only interviews people for their idaho program. Everybody else just gets an acceptance or rejection letter in the mail. That's the only school that I know of that does this.

NYU does not require an interview, up until 2 years ago, marquette did not require an interview.

Thats good. I think all dental schools should just look at your application and decide if you'd be a good dentist...especially if you're like me and you have no arms. I sure hope schools don't notice that part. Arms are overrated. I saw a guy with no arms playing a helluva game of poker on ESPN.
