A lot of people ask me this question. They tell me how MD's are more favored in the medical industry, so why would you go with a DO?

Why did you guys decide to become a DO instead of an MD?

The programs are less competitive and becoming a doctor was more about helping people through medicine, going down any avenue necessary. I wouldn't necessarily say that MD's are more favored at least around where I am at. MD's and DO's are mixed and there really isn't much distinction.

Oh please don't say that at an interview. Unless you want to get rejected.

I have wanted to go the DO route for a long time now because I'm extremely interested in manual manipulation. I think its a great tool to be able to utilize as a doctor.

I am interested in primary care, and since DO schools are geared towards primary care, I figure Ill get better training. If not better, then atleast Ill have the option of using OMM.

It was the only school near the beach. DO chicks are hot.

I supposedly get to practice medicine at the end too, I think.

so in all honesty, are the D.O. chicks actually hotter than M.D.? i would never say that in an interview, but damn that would def be a major perk to choose D.O. over M.D. haha

You get to pick out the hot chicks a lot faster since you'll be doing OMM for the first two years. Everyone is so hurried changing into their scrubs for anatomy that its hard to sneak a peak. But in OMM, there is plenty of observation time.

See, this is exactly why I workout everyday to prepare for OMM, so you guys can stare at my booty.:meanie:

This is another reason to go to school with a professional dress code. You get to see the girls dressed up everyday

I applied to a variety of solid medical programs, both MD and DO, and I ended up choosing the best one among those that accepted me. End of story.

Anyway, who cares what "they" think. Who are "they?" It's all about what you want. You could frame it this way to "them": PC's are more favored in the business industry, so why would you go with a Mac?

haha wow that is a great quote.. i'll have to use that sometime!

I'm just hoping I get accepted. The way I see it is MD's great to have, but if that doesn't happen for me there's nothing wrong with DO. Different paths, same goal. I'd just like to get accepted to either one.

After reading this thread, I think I might have to practice OMM on myself. j/p haha

As to all the losers on this thread, who are talking about MD vs. DO. By the time you and I graduate from med school, theres gonna be a shortage of doctors in this country, like there were shortage of votes for McCain. At which point, it won't matter if you are a MD, DO, or a Chiropractor. You'll be in demand lol...I bet even Naturopaths will be popular. In fact, I am seriously contemplating growing a few strange looking trees in my backyard and calling myself a naturopath. Itll save me so much trouble. When someone sick comes in, Ill just tell them to sniff one of the leaves...rich!

You would make a great DO!

It's easier to get into, interesting holistic approach, interesting philosophy and DO's seem to be more socially equipped. Oh yeah and we don't have to exclusively prescribe for pain, we can actually use our lovely manipulative hands!

Man, who wouldn't want to be an osteopathic doctor??
