Why is it that secondaries ask for the same info, like coursework, that's already on the AMCAS?

To justify them charging you another $75 or so for "processing your application." 😡

But top schools like Harvard don't even bother with making you feel like the fee is potentially warranted. They just want your name and address, and then your credit card number so they can charge you more money! Why is this? Because they're Harvard and can do whatever the hell they want! 🙄

yeah well its better than having to fill out a secondary with four more essay questions like Chicago. you know you are going to have to pay them anyway, so it may as well be easy to do. penn's is so lovely, no questions at all. and i can't complain about cornell either. chicago's, however, makes me not want to go there just because their secondary is so unnecessarily long.

oh god, maybe duke will screen me out of their secondary. i would almost rather that than fill out the secondary from hell. too bad i would love to go to duke. why must they make our lives as painful as possible? they know they're going to get damn good students. they should just pick names out of a hat, that would probably work just as well.

Yeah........Duke's secondary was hell. I almost did not finish it; I came close to tossing it when my BF smacked me over the head and told me to grow up! Now, looking back, it's all worth it.

different people see primaries and different people see secondaries. The two groups may coincide in what they wnat to know on paper from you. They do not exchange info. and could care less how many times you have repeated it.

Is that right? That comes out to over 15 pages single spaced (Averaging 650 words a page). I can't imagine any committee wanting to read several thousand 15 page essays 😛

well, they wouldn't have to read several thousand because vanderbilt only has people who are interviewed fill out the secondary.


10,000 words still seems very high.

Forget anything I said about Duke's secondary being bad. Even now that I am done with MS, I still would have difficulty writing 10K words about myself!
