DrMOM.. this is duplicate too.. can we shut it down

This thread is worthless. A DO = MD - omm (I heard a rumor that Harvard will start incorporating some osteopathic ideas into their curriculum). When I apply to medical school obviously I will make UW my first choice as it is my state school ($55,000 for four years of tuition 🙂), after that it comes down to which school will be the most affordable. There are more than two reasons to attend an osteopathic school.

How 'bout the option that I had no preference?

What made you choose DO

You didn't include a choice for those who were accepted to both DO and MD schools and chose DO.

My family doc was a D.O. I grew up with visiting him and then I shadowed him. Since I was a child I have always wanted to be a D.O. I remember in undergrad people told me I was going to be less of a doctor b/c your not getting the M.D. I wonder what they all think now, they are drug reps who could not get in, maybe they can visit me in the office one day.

Exactly...this is a ******ed poll.

Oh common guys, the new posters are just a little bit curious. I asked a lot of these questions too when I first became aquanited with SDN.

Now as for me and why I choose DO, well I flipped a quater - that's how I was able to tell. 🙂

What about those of us who thought we were going into optometry and mistakenly ended up in a DO school?

😉 don't cha think you would have noticed when you had to take the MCAT instead of the OAT?

I'm neither,

I applied to both but thought I would prefer an MD program. I actually got into my top choice...abiet, my state school LSU. But, I was totally blown away by the DO schools that I interviewed at and were ultimately accepted.

I don't think I'm the only person on the planet who is turning down an MD program to get a DO.

I would agree that there were only two options on this poll and I am applying to both MD and DO programs because I feel they each have their own benefits. I have been shadowing an MD and DO for the past year to two years and admire both practices. I have competitive grades to get into either and feel they are equally as good. Good luck to everyone applying with me for 2007!!! 😀

See my post under the Top DO School Choice thread. I went on and on and on about a particular school that interested me so much that I looked into being a DO just because of that school 🙂

I am starting to think that the people who start these polls are so worried about their own choice that they need to be reassured that others have chosen the same path. The reason I say this: 1) very few people answer truthfully and 2) It isn't accurate so who the hell cares? (it is like those weight loss commericals where Betty lost 98 lbs on the Wendys diet). Those who have decided this path have done so for a variety of reasons that cannot be contained in a simple poll.
