why do purkinje fibers have the fastest conduction but slowest pacemaking ability?

So, it seems that purkinje fibers have the fastest conduction speeds (more than AV node), but the slowest pacemaker ability (less than AV node). I always assumed there was a relationship between conduction speed and pacemaker speed. Thanks so much.
