I'll avoid a complete rehash. Executive summary: I love learning about everything and very few fields are anywhere near as all-encompassing as psychology.

Because if I didn't do this work or study this material, I don't think I could imagine myself doing anything else. Maybe I'd be a starving artist drinking cheap wine in a grungy apartment in Oregon and painting all day, I don't know. But, I know that who I am as a person feels to match up with everything about this profession. It just became obvious to me at some point that this is what I'm supposed to do, and I love it. No doubt.

Or, if you are one, why did you want to become one?

I heard that male psychologists were highly sought out by women for their sensitivity.

So, on a more serious note, I wanted to accomplish a number of things. First, I wanted a career I could continue pursuing late in life. I am so inspired by Aaron Beck, last I saw him he was about 90 and still motoring around and doing amazing for his years. I know he's still around, but I don't know if he's still seeing people.

I wanted to earn my military retirement, so this was one route back into the military, a population I specifically wanted to work with. Strange but true, I did not decide to pursue clinical psychology, seriously, until 2005 at age 38. That's when everything dropped into place and the stars just randomly aligned. So, down the path I went!

Now back to working on my dissertation, I need to defend it soon!
