Why does hereditary Fructose intolerance lead to liver damage?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
While studying, I couldn't actually figure out the real reason either but I recall my med school professor stating that it was because of a depletion of phosphate (all of it being tied up in F1P, F --> F1P being a very fast reaction). Depletion of Phosphate --> Decreased ATP --> Cellular Damage. I can't confirm that this is actually true because he didn't cite a source in that lecture but that's how I sort of conceptualized it. Same sort of deal appears to hold for Hereditary Galactose intolerance as well.
Well it makes much more sense when you think about it that way.
