Hello all!
Does anyone know why US schools decided to go to a Entry-Level PharmD model istead of the BS -PharmD model. Why did the accredeting bodies stop accrediting programs that only offered the BS? Is this just to follow the same path as medicine has ? We have to discuss these issues in one of my classes and I cant find anywhere what the exact reasoning for this change was. I would appreciate any info.

Because the ACPE said so!

Google ACPE & history. Its a long, long story. PM me if you want the details. The process took over 10 years, so its too long & boring to elucidate to everyone here.

But, it takes enough time to learn all the material to obtain a PharmD.

Ooooo can I know as well? I'm in Canada (University of Toronto) and my Dean said we're trying to strive for entry-level PharmD but the government is so far hesitant in allowing the schools to do so. I know that Quebec will be the first province in the coming year to allow entry-level PharmD's. I'm very interested in this topic, so please share with us! 😀

You'll also want to google the Argus Commission of the AACP from 1995 to get more info.
