I'm 24. Young for life, old for a pre-med. I have worked for almost 10 years now (started at 15 programming) in the IT industry. I've run a business, I've made a lot of money, and I am unsatified with the subject matter, for lack of a better term. I was closely introduced to medicine first hand via a business I ran in which I installed electronic practice management systems all over the country for doctors. I found their work to be more interesting than mine and several became close friends.
I love diagnosing things. I love learning. I find medicine as a subject matter interesting. I can't explain the rush I get watching surgeries; my goal is currently surgery, although I'm sure that could change. That's the 'selfish' reasons. The other is that at some point my goal changed from make as much money as you can ASAP (hey, I am a product of the 90's tech boom 🙂 ) to leaving a positive mark in life. Medicine fulfills all of my personal wants while allowing me to sleep easy at night knowing I have made a real difference.
Oh, and I have to admit, I really like the challenge of it too 😳
