I interviewed there. Top notch clinic (really comparable to other schools), geared toward the community, and module system (I really like this curriculum).

Bump, I am interested.

I don't like your new avatar...😉

pick asdoh if you like public health and community dentistry. They are a public health dental school through and through. Nice facilities, campus is kind of in a random spot, not much going on in the east valley. Nice clinic and happy students.

I know...Glendale is totally the place to be...

Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

The clinical experience you will get at Arizona is not comparable to other schools. I would say that it is pretty much unrivaled. I'm sitting in my endo program talking to pre-docs who really hope they get to finish 4 root canals before they graduate. I'm not exactly sure how many root canals I did at ASDOH because I stopped counting at 60 (More than 50 of those were done outside in community health centers). I'm starting to see why so many people go into GPRs...because their dental schools don't give them much experience at all.

At Arizona you will spend half of your 4th year working at community health centers where you'll probably have an assistant and frequently see more than 10 patients / day. I don't know of any other comparable experience in the country.

Pros: Boards after 1st year, comfortable and cooperative atmosphere, incredible clinical experience, mutual respect with instructors, no specialties except ortho, very nice winters...

Cons: $$$ Expect to have over $250k in debt when you're done, Admissions are strange...don't expect to get in just because you're stats are above last year's published average, Really hot summers (but you'll have AC anyway)

I know my opinion is biased because I went there and loved it, but I really did love it. 100% sure it was the best place for me.

Thanks for the input ... may be "biased" but honest and helpful for all of us looking for a place to spend the next 4+ years ...

Another question for ASDOH.. I remember reading someone's post that ASDOH invites a bunch of people for interview and the ratio of people getting in after interview is like 1/7. Is this true? I'm from the east coast, and I definitely wouldn't want to spend all that money on air fares if my chances were THAT slim in the first place--this is why I'm postponing my secondaries for ASDOH :scared:!

Also.. for other schools, what would be the average # of root canal procedures before one graduates?

Thanks for any input!👍

Thank you for all of your great input. It really helps 🙂

I just interviewd there. Last year they interviewed 420 applicants for 60 spots. Lets just say I'm not to optimistic I will be accepted.

I just interviewed there as well. The place was great. Their faculty were extremely nice and the facilities blew away anything else I have seen. The CHC and modular system they have there is exactly what I want. Get all the classwork done in a year. Set yourself a firm foundation in academics and then they get you to work. By the time you leave it sounds like you have basically been practicing for a year... I really want to go there.

They said they will interview about 300ish pre-Dec 1 and fill 60% of their seats with them. I think they are having 68? seats this year... After Dec 1 they will interview to fill the rest of the seats + pick up people off the wait list.

Touche DienteLoco, Touche! I prefer Glendale over east Mesa, I actually live 2 miles south of ASDOH so I have to make the long commute every day. In my case it was more like beggers can't be choosers thing but at least at MWU there are places to go to lunch but that's about it.

Glendale Schmendale, ASDOH is down the street from the mall and near a bunch of places to eat. And the cafeteria at Midwestern is terrible!

I live about the same distance (maybe a little arther) from ADOH and can tell you that down baseline (east) you can go to pizza hut, subway, sonic, and a little deli next to the subway, if you turn right on Power Rd. (south) there is IHOP, Arbys (on the right) and a chinese buffet on the left jsut across the street from both. If you were to make a left on Power Rd. (north) you will find BK, El Pollo Loco, TGI Fridays, On the Border, Hooters, O'Sullivans, Streets of New York, BJ's (yes that is their name), PF Chang's and soon to be there is Buffalo Wild Wings.

Happy eating.

I have to agree with the cafeteria at MWU, its worse than my highschool cafeteria food.

But there are a lot of places to eat around thankfully,

So the Midwestern vs ASDOH rivarly is goin on with who has more places to eat eh?

Are any of you ASDOH'ers going to the Boo Bash on Oct 30th??

Geez.... Can't a guy share his opinion on here without getting scolded?? Ya ya, so you won't starve at ASDOH but you can walk across the street at MWU and grab lunch, that's all I meant. Anyways before this thread digresses any farther..... ASDOH is a great school, I don't think you can go wrong there. I know lots of faculty and students there and they are all great. My favorite part about ASDOH is the big asphalt ramp you hit as you drive north through the intersection. It only takes one time hitting that thing to learn to slow down. I also like the green grass, too bad you can't walk on it without getting shot by snipers on the roof tops.

So true, so true 😀

What's GPR?

Also, I've heard that Arizona has a module system, can you explain how that works?

Wow, this thread was dead for over 2 years.

GPR is general practice residency.

Module system has students learning one medical topic each week and then taking a test on it before moving on to the next topic. At least that's how it was when I was there in 2003-2004. It may have changed now (like I said, this thread was dead for 2+ years).
