Please help me out here--I feel like I'm missing something huge--

If a student's goal is to release a (hopefully strong) Step II score AFTER interview invitations are made (i.e. not really for the purpose of gaining more interview invitations) but BEFORE programs make their rankings, can't she/he take the exam as late as mid-to-late December 2010 (with the score released around third week of January) and still be ok?

All I want is for the score to play a role in my final ranking.

Looks like a lot of the programs (EM) I'm interested in require Step 2. Maybe it depends on the specialty?

If you are implying that the rankings process is so rigid that once your place is established, no new information will be able to affect it at all, please confirm.

Bingo. A lot more programs are starting to require step 2 to be considered for interviews.

Especially heavily clinical specialties: FM, EM, IM, etc.

Some schools require an early step 2. We have to have ours taken (both CK and CS) by September.
