Hi everyone,
I'm a Canadian applying to a few US schools and currently finishing up secondaries. The main reason as to why I am applying in the states is that my long- term boyfriend is currently living there and it's difficult to fathom another 4 years of long-distance... Should I mention this reason in application questions that ask why I want to go to a specific school, or will that seem a little naive..? Thanks for your opinion! 😍

Definitely naive and can potentially hurt your application. I would only include a mention of your SO if you are engaged/married. Don't expect it to help very much however.

Well I agree somewhat with the above. If you are engaged or married then this would be a good thing and shows the school that hey, you're genuine about wanting to go to school in the states. However, the secondary application is supposed to be specifically about that school... why their school and not another school in the states? Unless your SO lives in the same area as the school - same city for instance, its probably not going to be much help, but it could also hurt you if it comes across to them as naive.

Not saying go ahead and tie the knot now to help your app but... gunners gotta gun !

(totally kidding about that last part)

This can potentially help or hinder your secondary app. If u state this is the number one reason you are applying to shh and such school it will hurt your application. If you provide other distinct reasons why you desire to attend a certain school, then add that attending this school will close the distance gap on a Long distance relationship providing you with an awesome opportunity for support from him during you busy years in med school, it élan help your app.
I would say be honest and include it if it really is a reason. Admissions desire and admire honesty like that in apps, but still spin it to be only one among many reasons u are applying.
