During my interview at University of Pittsburgh, the Dean for Admissions stated, that according AMCAS, they are verifying applications in order of receipt starting with the August submissions. If you submitted before August, they are just picking them at random. This is the reason August submitters are being verified before us.

He also stated that AMCAS has promised that all applications will be verified by the end of December (at least they didn't say next week again). The school does not have much confidence in this and informed those of us interviewing that if we are accepted there will probably be a clause stating that the offer is contingent on verification of eligibility.

Finally, according to the dean, the people in charge of this fiasco were demoted and a hot shot from AAMC has been put in charge to sort things out. Let's hope he/she can begin to straighten things out.

Sarena-

I interviewed at Pitt a week and a half ago. When the Dean told you that they were picking applications to process at random for those who submitted before August....he was just kidding. He did the same thing with our group. He did, however, tell us more seriously that AMCAS had acquired "the worm" virus or whatever its called and that they had infected multiple medical schools with the virus in transmitting applications to them electronically.

When I called AMCAS to see why August applicants had been verified before some who had submitted much sooner, the "specialist" told me that the apps had all been accidentally sorted by AMCAS ID number instead of date submitted to determine the order of processing. The situation only lasted a few days and is corrected now. I also learned that they are doing "priority" processing on applications that were submitted before a certain date, but you have to call and request that your app is put in the "priority" pile. That seems to be the most effective method of getting processed at the current time. Hope this was helpful for someone, seems like I've been rambling on and on......

Oh, bull poopy. Everything AMCAS says is BS. Don't even listen to them. I have no faith that my app will ever be processed, but am certain that those "demoted" are lying on a beach somewhere spending my 500 bucks! (IF that is, anyone actually WAS demoted--I don't believe this either).

Sorry, there are few things I can't stand, but people who LIE TO YOUR FACE are one of them. I don't blame the poor "specialist" people on the phone, it's the higher-ups who truly suck. They're the REAL liers!

Paranoid Android, any idea what date that is? Would it be the Aug. 10 date that we were hearing about a while back? Supposedly all apps submitted after that date were being sent as unverified hard copies to the schools, while everyone who submitted before that was still at the mercy of their "specialists," waiting to be verified (sort of like waiting for Godot, isn't it?).

P.S. are you a Radiohead fan?

SMW-

I think we're talking about two different things now. When I called SCAMCAS about two days ago, they told me that anyone who had submitted their application between June 26 and July 5 that has not yet been verified could call and request that their app be placed in the "priority" pile. It sounds like they will extend the dates of submission that they will allow into the pile by a few weeks every few weeks. (i.e. next week people who submitted June 26-July 19 could call and request "priority" processing.) The guy told me that once you request to have your app in the priority pile, it will be anywhere from two days to two weeks and your app should be verified.

Radiohead fan.......how could you tell?

I submitted late August and was verified late September. Most of my schools have my verified application (but NONE has my MCAT scores!!!).

Drako- No complaining. I submitted early July and I am still not verified. You could just suck it up and spend the $$ to send your MCATs with the ASR form that would get them there within a week. Try that...

While I suppose, in the spirit of SDN, we have to be happy for you 🙂 -- WE REALLY DON'T NEED TO KNOW SOME THINGS! AND THAT WAS ONE OF THEM!! 😉 You must have slid through with the mistake about sorting apps by AMCAS ID numbers instead of submission date, apparently about a 2 day window of opportunity. SOME PEOPLE HAVE ALL THE LUCK!!! 😡 😉

As for your MCAT scores, who needs 'em? Everyone knows standardized tests are highly overrated. 😀

I also heard the story about verification in order of AMCAS ID# and that it was only a problem for couple days. The supervisor told me this a few weeks ago. He told me it had been sorted out several weeks before that. It is still happening now. It's one thing if they can't figure anything out. It's another when some "specialist" is sitting there verifying an application with a late August date on it knowing they should put it aside and work on one from June or July. The incompetency is still shocking to me, even after all these months.

Of course I am happy for those of you who submitted late and were lucky enough to get verified already. Very bitter at AMCAS but happy for you 🙂
