I was just wondering why so many schools make you wait until December to tell you if you have accepted or not? Would it not allow students to save money traveling all across the nation just hoping that one of the schools they visited will accept them? I know some schools tell you before december, but it is ridiculous that some make you wait for such a long time.

Well, I think thats the whole point.

Let's say you get your first interview at the school that you perceive to be your first choice. Then they say "Congratulations, you are accepted!!"

Now, are you gonna waste money goin to other interviews. Some people may, and some people may not. The whole point of interviews are for the school to get to know the applicant and for the school to try and persuade you into coming to their school. How can they persuade you if you don't even come? I have heard many people change their minds after the whole interview process. What was once their pre-interview first choice sometimes changes after they interview at different schools.

I think the whole December wait thing is a gentlemen's agreement so that each school will have a fair playing ground to recruit applicants.

Just my opinion.

It also gives schools a chance to do things on a normal timetable and not have to rush through the whole process to get out acceptances.

Croco,
I have another theory. Its a conspiracy by the
"Capitalistic Government". All industries including greeting card
companies, flower shops, and among many others (Dental schools
included) support this conspiracy. Greetings & flowers for
birthdays, mothers day, fathers day, secretary's day, Christmas,
and what not makes you just spend spend spend. Dental schools
have joined the capitalastic government and helps keep the economy rolling...like AADSAS application, seperate
application fees for each school, and then travel for interview..

Just my theory..I know people will laugh at it, critisize it, but again I am free to express my opinion!
