Why withdraw after interview?

I've looked over several people's profiles on predent.com, and so many people withdrew their application "post-interview." I was just wondering why that is. If you already invested so much money in plane tickets, preparing for the interview..etc, why withdraw before knowing if you got in or not?
Is it just because they have another school in mind that they def. know they got into already?

I did this on my profile to indicate schools where I was offered an interview but declined. There's really no way to indicate this otherwise. In this case the withdrawal date should (IMO) be before the interview to indicate that you never actually went to it. If the withdrawal date is after the interview, then they probably showed up, got accepted elsewhere and withdrew before they were accepted or declined.

same here. i got invited to interviews after dec 1st but hadn't withdrawn my application after i deposited at the school i'm going to. so i guess i withdrew post-interview. but i didnt go to those interviews.

Either they got into a different school, where they preferred to go or they went to the interview and hated the school, city, etc. that they couldn't see themselves spending 4 years there.
You must realize that you don't go to interviews for schools to choose you. It's a mutual thing. You want to evaluate the school and see whether or not it's the place for you and they wanna evaluate you to see whether or not you're an ideal applicant for their school. So, it's not unusual for people to decline an offer from a school, because they didn't like the place.

one of the main things with this is courtesy

if you got into your #1 choice and still have pending acceptances from other schools after being interviewed, might as well take your name out of the running so that applicants that will fill your spot at other schools (that may be their #1) will have a better chance at getting it.

remember, for every extra acceptance you have, there is an applicant dying to even have an acceptance. no use in dragging things out for others if you have your mind made up

In my case, I got interviews at 6 or so schools, but only attended 3 of the interviews. When I received interview invites, I had to think if I would even end up attending the school even if I were to be accepted. So on my predents I indicated that I was invited for an interview, but then immediately updated my status to Withdraw Application. And in this case, predents shows that the withdrawal is "Post-Interview", when in fact it is technically "Pre-Interview" withdrawal but a "Post-Interview Invitation" withdrawal. I guess it's a bit hard to portray that information in the way the site it set up..
