Why would a school have DO and MD?

I'm applying to Nova's MD program, but I noticed that they already had an active DO program. Just wondering why a school would decide to do this and if having the two separate programs might affect the quality of each. Thanks.

Cynical guess is $$$$$$$$

It might. Biggest impact is probably felt in clerkship selection / opportunities / competition / number of students per service. Students at those schools would know best tho
