Hello! On a previous thread, one of the adcoms (I believe LizzyM), stated that sometimes adcoms will decide that an applicant should be interviewed and then wait for a couple weeks or even a month before actually sending them an explicit invitation. What's the rationale here, to manage interview loads? Thanks!

Some programs send out interview invitations in waves and some applicants simply have to wait for the next wave. Sometimes an applicant may be on a short list for an interview but the program wishes to go through more applications before making a final decision to get a better feel on the current cycle's applicant pool. No matter what, it doesn't really matter.

Many possible reasons exist, but the one that would make the most sense to me is that schools have a limited number of interviews they can conduct in a given time frame. Many (not all) schools may choose to hold those IIs out so that way they're not scheduling interviews several months out in advance, where changing plans can create significant problems.

Hard to say for certain what it is. But just know that each school moves to the beat of its own drum and that there's nothing you can really do but wait it out and continue to strengthen your application.

In our experience, scheduling several months out just resulted in numerous requests to reschedule due to circumstances that arose in the interim. Much less of that when you schedule interviews 2-4 weeks in advance.
