Hello,

I am applying this upcoming cycle and would like some advice with my schools list. I would prefer to apply to WICHE schools in order to save on the cost.

PAT 18
QR 16
RC 22
Bio 20
Chem 22
Ochem 23
TS 21
AA 21

GPA = 3.80
Major = Psychology
Minor = Biology

**Excellent ECs

Schools:
Midwestern AZ
ASDOH
Colorado
Western
UCSF
Creighton
UNLV
U Washington

Would you guys recommend any other schools that are not WICHE? Do I have a shot at TX schools? I would really like to attend a school with a solid clinical education. Thank you so much!!

You could slap Oregon on there for fun too. You'll interview at several of these and probably get into at least a couple, but which state are you from that you're feeling confident about receiving WICHE funding this early?

I am an Arizona resident but I'm just hoping for the best. Dental school is so expensive XD

You should be fine with the list you have then. A few of those are early interviewers too, so you should have a few interviews all done by October, assuming you don't breakdown interviewing or wear tube socks with your suit (you'll see it, I promise). I haven't the time to dig around, but a school like Buffalo or something might be okay to add on too. Tuition is manageable if they still do the residency thing. I'm not sure. If you can spare the change, a non-WICHE or two might be worth it. It sucks that you don't find out until about a year from now, but some of the WICHE schools are very pricey without WICHE (it'll be ~$100K over the four years if you get WICHE).

In short, you should be fine as-is. I don't know the formula, but you'll probably get WICHE. Mail your stuff now; 4 people have submitted so far and it doesn't hurt to be early since we have no idea how they select recipients.

as a CA resident can I apply for WICHE too, I am sort of confused on can qualify and the sites listed on go to the main dental school website of each respective school

I ask because I would like to apply to University of Colorado and University of Washington dental school but I heard they only take Washington and the states bordering around it (in those cases not CA)

Not if you're a CA resident. It's for residents of the handful of western states without a state dental school. It sort of makes that list of schools in-state for those applicants. They get preference in interviews over non-WICHE OOS applicants. If accepted to one of the schools listed and they are selected by their state to receive support, they pay in-state tuition (if private, it's makes that tuition appear a little more in-state).

Thank you for the feedback. It looks like I will be applying to eight school, while hoping to get an acceptance and a WICHE monieZZZ 🙂
