This is my second semester in college and I'm not doing well in Chem 1. If I get a C what are my chances?

I agree with @JLT223 - as long as your overall/science GPA is strong, nothing to worry about.

I'd honestly switch career paths at this point. A couple of A minuses are fine but a C is career suicide. ...............kidding. You'll be fine just don't make it a habit.

I would definitely study harder. Like the previous post says, Chem 1 isn't much compared to Ochem and Biochem.. It gets rough!

will getting a C decrease school options? I was on Meharry Medical college's website which says '..it is strongly advised that most of your prerequisite courses be completed, with no grade lower than a B-...'. I know it is 'strongly advised' but do you guys know of any school which doesn't accept grades lower than B-? Just curious!

It's obviously better to get a higher score, but you should still have second semester of Gen. Chem. coming up. Spend your break preparing for it and do very well in it. There's all sorts of free courses online nowadays. Go to Coursera.org or similar and master Gen. Chem 1 and 2 material. It'll be easy to explain that you made mistakes your first semester and were able to improve afterwards.

I had a c, and I had four interviews/three acceptances. Granted it wasn't in a pre-req, but you will be fine if you don't make this a habit.
