Hello all,
I just took my DATs last week and I did fairly well in all the sections except for PAT, in which i got a 19. I had a 22 AA and a 23 TS. I have a 3.56 overall GPA, research experience, shadowing, employment, and quite a few extracurriculars. I don't want to sound like one of those people who is just trying to stroke my ego, but I want to know if a 19 will severely hinder my chances at schools like UoP and Columbia. I know UoP and Columbia focus a lot on DATs - but since my other stats are fairly above average, do you think one average score will hold me back? Thanks for the reply!

19 isn't considered low, its just average. judging from your stats i think you are fine.

you might as well not even apply. seriously a 19?!?! just go start working at mcdonalds. 😉

I hate to break it to you but your 22 AA and 23 TS are average/low and your 19 PAT is laughable. I give you a one in a million chance and you're better off not applying this cycle. Retake and try to get at least a 24 for a realistic possibility at even the lowest ranked schools.

Yeah, I heard average matriculating DAT will be about 27. Better luck next year, huh?

Seems like you've been here long enough but it's understandable, sometimes we all get a little paranoid. You're perfectly fine, good luck.

thanks for the input guys. and as for the few jerkoffs, well id rather not stoop to your levels.

You are fine buddy. As for the posts above, Im sorry but I found them rather funny. When someone scores as well as you do, it comes off a bit paranoid to ask about your chances. (But you have every right to post if you need reassurance).

Good luck with your interviews and I'm sure you'll end up at a very desirable school. 👍

They just made sarcastic comments which, by the way, answered your question (albeit in a roundabout way). Based on your response I'd say you stooped, and then some 😛

now that i think about it...you are right!

You will be fine! I only had an 18 PAT and I got into 6 schools this year. My GPA was pretty high though and I had a lot of activities, etc. Some schools don't really care about the PAT that much while some do. Just research the schools you're interested in to get a better idea of your chances. Most schools look at your whole package, not just one score. Good luck!

I agree with the " jerk offs" and would not even apply this cycle, work on your stats and retake the DAT. Good luck next time

Yeah, don't worry man. Laugh it off. I do have to admit though, those 'jerk offs' were pretty hilarious! You know you will be fine. 🙂 Worry not. I'm sure you'll get in somewhere! 🙂 G'luck!

Cheers.

19 is average. however if you have an 18 or lower then you better have killer stats everywhere else.

You'll get in somewhere, so relax. Will a 19 PAT hurt your chances at UoP? Yes. If any school cares about PAT, it's UoP, your 19 is fine anywhere else. UoPs averages (either this year or last year) were 21/21/21. I bet that they would rather have a more balanced applicant with a 21/21/21 than with 22/23/19. Your AA and TS are really good though, so it remains to be seen whether those high scores will carry you to a UoP acceptance. I think you're totally golden for Columbia though.

IS THIS SARCASM!?😱

I think you have a good shot at UoP...I got in there and I know of several of my friends who scored 19 on the PAT section who also got in. Your overall scores are consistent and you seem to have pretty good ECs. Your GPA is also higher than there incoming class average, so that definitely puts you in a good spot. Good luck.
