I got accepted to a program a few weeks ago, and the deadline to submit the deposit and accept the offer is in a few days. However, I still have interviews and haven't heard back from a majority of the schools I applied to. I want to submit the deposit just to secure a spot for myself in case I don't get accepted anywhere else, but I have 2 upcoming interviews this month for programs that are higher on my list. If I submit the deposit and accept the offer now, will this affect my chances of being offered an interview or getting accepted into other programs? Will they even be able to see this?

My GPA is on the lower end so I'm just a little nervous that if I don't accept this offer and secure my spot that I won't get accepted anywhere else. I do have two interviews upcoming and have yet to hear back from 7 other programs I applied to so that is a little encouraging but I'm not too sure what to do. I'd appreciate any help! Thanks!

I was in the same exact boat as you! I was accepted into a program mid-September and they gave me a two-week deadline to secure my spot and pay my enrollment deposit. It wasn't my top choice program, but it was a program nonetheless and I did not want to risk giving up my seat and then not getting into any other schools that I had applied to that I had not heard from yet. I ended up paying the deposit and securing the seat. Once I was accepted into a different school that I liked more, I contacted the school I had paid to enrollment deposit to and told them that I have changed my plans and would like to release my seat.

Double-check the school you've been accepted to requires an enrollment deposit within the two-week period. I know some schools only require you to accept or decline your seat to hold it but don't require payment until January.

I learned from reading other posts on here that PTCAS schools cannot see if you have accepted offers from any other schools unless they extend an acceptance to you. So I wouldn't worry about you accepting a seat in one program impacting you getting accepted into other programs down the road.

I agree with the above user. It absolutely will not affect other programs’ decisions. I was also in the same situation where I was accepted to my first program and I accepted my spot and put down my deposit, so I could make sure I at least have a spot SOMEWHERE next year. It helps relieve some of the stress you have during other interviews because at the very least you know you have one acceptance under your belt or at least that’s my opinion. Congrats on the acceptance and good luck with the rest of your interviews!!

Will not affect either interviews or acceptance. They may be able to see that you got accepted to 1 school.
Definitely secure your spot with the deposit. If deposit due date is after your upcoming interviews, you can wait until the last day/week before you submit the deposit in case other schools will offer acceptance.

So does accepting somewhere else affect another schools decision to accept you or not? I was accepted somewhere that was my first choice (so I thought) and we paid the deposit, I then interviewed at Texas Tech and decided it was my first choice afterwards. Interviewed there 11/8 and waiting to hear back, wasn’t sure if me already accepting somewhere else would affect the decision or not.

No it won't! Schools can't see that you've accepted an offer elsewhere until after they extend an offer of admission to you. I was accepted into Texas Tech's program on the Lubbock campus after accepting a spot at another school.

I accepted to another school but didn't submit a deposit. I was accepted to a few schools hereafter, but responded to the ones that weren't at the top of my list the I declined just because I didn't really want my top school seeing I was accepted to multiple schools, since they did end up extending an offer to me. I had heard from other posts on here that some schools have rescinded offers as a result, but I'm sure this would only be the case if you maybe had multiple deposits down at multiple schools (2+ I'm assuming would look pretty bad). Just depends on the program but I'm sure you would be fine!

No, it does not affect another schools decision to accept you.

Hi All,

I had a similar experience, I placed a deposit at a school to reserve my spot, as it was due before I interviewed at my top school. I have since been accepted to my top school, and need to release my seat. Any advice on how you went about wording this to the school? I am sure they see this often but just want to make sure I go about it the right way!

Thanks in advance!

Hey just wondering, when you declined your offer to schools did you email back with the offer letter stating so, or did you mail it physically?

I just sent an email back from the offer letter declining! The only school I got any physical mail from was Drexel, but the other 3 didn't send anything.

I am curious if any schools will withdraw their acceptance if you keep holding more than one seat. I have a few schools that would be tough to choose between until I have more information that is a few months coming, so am considering putting down a few deposits even though it's financially difficult for me to do so.

Will other schools I've been accepted to be notified if I accept a spot at another school?
