Will being a published author (non-medical) score any points with adcoms?

Hello,

I have a question regarding non-medically related activities. I am a post-bacc student (26) whose past careers included law school and being a freelance writer who has published articles and two books. I wondered if this may make me stand out to adcoms, or if it won't matter at all. The two books are on education topics--both nonfiction, and can be found at all major bookstores across the country.

Thanks!

anything you can do that would help make you seem different from all the other applicants will always be a good thing (except for dressing odd for the interview and being a major criminal)

Ratty,

I definitely think that your published material would score points with Adcoms, i mean, how many people have actually published two books that are on sale in nationwide bookstores?! That is such a cool EC, I wish I had something like that...🙂

I also completely agree, anything that makes you stand out. My prior career was dancing professionally and I got to travel all around the world. I'm counting on this to make me stand out🙂 And clearly I didn't do it just for the admissions process, cause I didn't even think about applying to medical school until 2 years ago.
