Hello, all!

Quick question...hopefully.

I will be graduating undergrad next May at 27(veteran). Because of my age, I don't want to take an extra year between graduating and applying to school. I'm already self conscious just thinking about being the old girl (relatively) in med school. My issue is that I have to take Biochemistry during the summer after I graduate and will not be through with it until July 1st. I am still however planning on taking the MCAT no later than May 1st. Will it be considered applying late in the cycle if I don't have biochemistry completed until July?

I really want to apply right after I graduate, but I'm worried that not finishing biochemistry until July will put me at a strong disadvantage. I was really hoping to apply early for a little bit of an advantage.

What do you all think? Will it be considered applying late in the cycle in July or will I be alright?

Just info: gpa replaced should be between 3.6 and 3.8. No mcat yet, solid recs, and volunteering Female, vet, urm

Thanks, guys and gals!!!

If you're talking strictly about applying DO then you would be far from late. Applications open in May. June and July are pretty early in the cycle to submit. Heck, you wouldn't even have an issue applying in August or September if you had to push back. That said, take your time putting your application together. Submitting a strong application a few weeks later is better than a weak application put in too soon.

July application definitely won't be late for DO cycle (won't be early either), but do realize that if you graduate in May and you're applying 2 months later, you WILL have a gap year between graduation and matriculation.

Thank you all for the replies! I know that I will have a year between graduating and matriculating, I just want to limit it to one year instead of waiting to submit the cycle after. I truly want to go the DO route, but I am also considering applying MD as well. If the cards are stacked against me for MD by applying late, I might just skip applying MD altogether. So relieved that I wont be considered late for DO schools though! Thanks a bunch for the info!

Pretty much same thing I am doing except this year(minus graduating, that will be same time as yourself). .

Taking biochem summer session 1 which at my school ends june 28 i think. Then mcat july 8. I am applying mostly DO just 1 or 2 md schools. So i should be complete early august which isn't early by any means but hey what i gotta do. Ill be glad to tell ya how it goes bad🙁 or good 🙂 lol.

I truly hope that everything works out for you! I posted this in the Allopathic forum as well and got some reassuring feedback about applying later. Good luck to you and make sure to post when you get that acceptance! 🙂

It won't be too late to apply, go for it! One bit of advice: go on sdn and check out the questions for the school's secondary applications and start working on those so you can turn in your secondaries asap after you get them. This will save you a lot of time, especially if you plan on applying to a whole bunch of school. The questions aren't guaranteed to be the same, but they usually are. Good luck!

Excellent advice, I will definitely make sure to do that. Thank you!
