Hi i'm wondering if i'll have a chance to get in to any of these schools especially the ones in NY. with the following stats. I think i am considered a minority and my E.C's are pretty good ranging from research, volunteering, a summer program, and clubs.

DAT
AA:18
TS:17
PAT:17

Plan on applying to: NYU, SB, buffalo, columbia for fun, tufts, boston, and vcu.

I really want to stay in NY so do u guys think i have a chance at any of the ny schools??

Huh? Are you black, hispanic, or native american? If you aren't any of these, you are not a minority.

I do not think you have a legit chance at any school, unless yoou are a minority, then you could prob get into howard. Your g.p.a is solid, but all your dat scores are below avg. I recomend you to retake it. I dont thnk you can get into ny with your dat scores.

Also, as the poster above me said, you don't stand much of a chance with your fairly low DAT score.

My advice... figure out whether you're a minority or not (again, ). If you discover that you are indeed a minority as you thought, then go for it, you'd have a shot at Howard or Meharry. If you discover you are not a minority, retake the DAT and try again.

everyone aims for a min of a 19 on most of the sections. i believe AA,TS,and PA are the most important sections ( those are the 3 listed in the ADEA guide to dental schools). so if you do well on both and okay on the other, then i think you would still have a chance.

Based on 2009 DAT averages numbers, Stony Brook 22 AA, Columbia 21 AA, NYU 20 AA, Buffalo 19 AA. Columbia's AA has been 22 in past years though. I anticipate Buffalo's AA to go up, as it's gaining popularity because of it's low price point.

20's across the board would put you in good position for NYU and Buffalo.

thanks for the replies, i thought i didn't need that high of a DAT score, because my gpa is fairly high, but i guess i still need an above 19 AA to be considered.

DAT is a 3hr test, study and kill it! got to show schools you can rip standardize testing and have the ability to pass boards in the future...

and also... a fairly high gpa w/ a substandard DAT=grade inflation
don't let schools think your school inflates grades, retake get 19+ and you SHIP IT!
