My Main question is: Will it be worth it by the time I get there?

I'm a Junior in high school and i've been really thinking hard about becoming a doctor. I've always had being a doctor In the back of my mind. Every time i would think about another career path it just didn't look right to myself.

I've been looking at this form for the last couple of months and lots of people say its worth it and alot of people say, Choose something else.

Is Medical school that hard? & Will I have time for a social life? 20's are prime years. Will I have time to spend with my friends? To date?

By the way Malpractice insurance is rising will it be worth in these upcoming years? (Money isn't a prime factor for me but it will mean alot to me to be at least comfortable)

And for me being a woman, will I have time to start a family even? I know its to early to think about that but it's nice to know?

So Med students and Doctors? 🙂👍 Will it be worth it by the time I get there?😀

Strong join date to post ratio

And I don't think you should really spend too much time thinking about it until you are in college.

Enjoy what's left of high school. Go to a college you like, and don't worry about prestige. Major in a subject you enjoy, not something that is "pre-med" or will "prepare you for medical school." THOSE are the things you need to think about right now.

Once you get to college (or even now, if you want) you can start volunteering in a hospital or other clinical setting to see if this is really what you want to do. If it is, it's worth it.

Med school is not all-consuming. Yes you have to study more than you did in college, and it is hard, but we have PLENTY of time for a social life, spending time with friends, dating, etc. That should not be a reason not to go into medicine.

Yes there is time for a family. You will most likely have to make sacrifices...you probably won't be able to go to every baseball game or whatever...but you don't have to swear off getting married or having kids. Many people in my class are married/engaged, a couple have children, it all works out.

These are all things you don't have to worry about as a 16/17 year old. When I was your age, I didn't even know what the MCAT was, and I knew from volunteering that I was interested in medicine. I didn't find SDN until I was studying for said MCAT my junior year of college. I think SDN is getting to your head  Enjoy what's left of high school, and worry about pre-med and med school in a couple years.
