Hey guys 🙂 I'm not really sure what to do and would appreciate any help
I already have a Bachelors, but I'm currently taking psychology classes and volunteering as an RA so I can apply for PhD programs next year. I'm a non-matriculated student at Rutgers, and being non-matriculated means that I can only take out private loans, and I was rejected for loans this semester due to bad credit.
Paying for my tuition out of pocket is really killing me, so I thought why not enroll as a second degree student. Well, there's something called the RU Screw that people here talk about. Now I get it. For me to get a second degree in psychology, I would need to take 3 non-psych electives and 1 college math, even though I already have a Bachelors! 4 classes is $4,500 and I see no point in taking them.
Registering as a second degree student would be the only way that I can get federal loans. I was thinking what if I do this anyway just to get the loans, take only psych classes, but never finish the degree. On the transcript I guess it would say uncompleted. Would this look bad? Has anyone here done this? I'm hoping admission committees will see all the classes and not care that I didn't finish the degree.
