Hi All,

Forgive me if this is in the wrong place, I'm new here.

I started undergrad at a california state school (finished about half of my course load here) and transferred to Southern New Hampshire when I started working full time to finish my bachelors degree.

My plan is to go back and finish the basic per-requisite hard sciences where I only need about 7-8 courses. My cGPA from undergrad is 3.5..Hoping to raise that a little bit with the science pre-reqs.

My main concerns/questions: Will my undergrad at SNHU hurt my application? Should I just opt to complete a Biology BS from my local state school? Or can I complete the pre-reqs and be competitive assuming I do well on the MCAT with solid extra curriculars? I looked into post-bacc programs but there aren't any close by where I live. I have the option to complete almost all of these pre-reqs from my local community college as well. Is that a viable option?

I just want to be competitive as possible when the time comes to start applying to schools.

Appreciate any help/advice!

Your undergrad at SNHU will not hurt your chances You can complete your Biology BS at your local state school. As long as your MCAT is at least 500 you should be able to receive interviews at some DO schools. MD schools will depend on how much higher your MCAT is.

Thanks Faha! I appreciate the feedback!

I will definitely put in the time to do well on the MCAT to be competitive for MD programs. I am a NC resident so I'm hoping to do well enough to get into a state school here (Brody or UNC). I will be shadowing quite a bit and volunteering as well.

Assuming I do well enough on the MCAT, I have a few other things that may help my application such as working in Healthcare IT (Epic Analyst) and military service. Do you think my Healthcare IT experience will help my application in any way?

Thank you again for replying!

A history of military service will definitely help as well as Healthcare IT.

Great!

One last question if you don't mind: Assuming my ECs/LORs/PS are good, do you feel like the BS in biology is a must? Or will my BA in Information Technology plus the science pre-reqs from the med schools recommended/required page be enough to be competitive?

I don't mind completing the BS if it gives me more of an edge but curious if it will make a big difference?
