Will there be a second wave of interviews?

Hi all,

So I have completed 5 interviews with one more scheduled for early january. There are still 8 schools that I haven't heard a peep out of. It's been a long time since an interview invite, so I was wondering if there is typically a second wave of invites after the holidays, or if invites tend to fizzle out after this point. Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm in a similar position myself right now - oddly enough, almost the identical situation. I finished my 5th interview last week and have one more scheduled for February, but I'm still waiting to hear from 5 more schools. Once I'm done with finals (tomorrow! yay!) I'm planning on sending out a letter of interest or some other conk on the head to those MSTPs saying "Hey, I'm still here, and I'm still interested in you."

As much as more interview invites would make a wonderful Christmas gift, I have a feeling that after this week the next two or three weeks will be a complete drought as committee members go on vacation.

Me too! And I thought j-weezy was a guy for a long time and pennquaker a girl until about a week ago when he corrected me. I always feel bad when that happens.

haha, I should have chosen something more masculine like "Mountain Bull" or "Mountain Man". Actually I just liked the picture and had to come up with a name.

I called Yale today and they said only about 1/2 of the MD/PhD interview invites have been offered, and that most people still waiting will hear shortly after the break.

I thought you all might want to know to remove some worrying/stress (maybe not).... but a relative of mine *intentionally not disclosing* is at Yale SOM, and a member of MSTP steering, and over the holidays told me they have had their strongest applicant pool ever this year, and while usually they would interview into the new year, they already have enough people they are going to accept that they don't see any need to interview more at this time. Of course, I assume they still could change their minds, but this is what he told me at dinner and I thought I would share the info with you all.

Yea...why not interview more people? It's not like Yale pays for plane tickets, hotel rooms, or even the stupid 80 dollar Connecticut Limo Shuttle service. 😡

Any of you other folks hear about continuing interviews? I suspect the MD/PhD cycle is more unpredictable than MD-only, since they have far fewer spots to fill. Interview cycles can be ended abruptly because of that fact, I suppose.

Unfortunately, the 2007 Interview thread does not show many postings beyond mid-january (although this could be a bit of file-drawer syndrome - lack of reporting as opposed to the absence of - at least I hope).
