I did not match in psychiatry (I know that sounds odd, but it was a very competitive year). My ideal goal is to get a one year internship then try again for psychiatry next year, but I am finding that the majority of internship spots seem to be gone already. I have found a few places that at first indicated that they had spots but are now saying I may not have an answer about if there is any room for me to enter their program as a traditional rotating intern until Friday afternoon.
In contrast, I have received several offers of positions from a few DO IM programs who want me to take a spot for the whole 3 years in tehir IM residency. It seems like the DO spots are becoming scarce, so I am wondering if it would be a terrible mistake to wait until Friday when I have an answer about the TRI spots before I accept one of the IM program offers? Will the IM spots likely all be spoken for by then?
I don't want to wind up in the wrong specialty in haste, but I don't want to miss out on all the spots out there by waiting too long.
Any advice?
