I am applying for the 2006 cycle, and apparently AADSAS has made some changes now, this being one of them:

"It is much easier and simpler to enter information about colleges and universities attended, as well as transcript information. The use of course codes has been discontinued; applicants simply enter course information as it appears on their transcripts."

Is this going to be an advantage or a disadvantage? If they had course codes than I guess it could be a little more advantageous when determining which of your classes should count towards your science GPA, etc. From now on, since we enter the classes as they appear on our transcript, what does that mean? Does it make a difference simply in the exact name of the course? Or what?

It will definitely make it easier for the applicants. I hated that part of the application....looking up all those course codes....what a pain!

Its gonna be hell of lot easier, and less time consuming, there's no is this a science class or a math related class discrepencies. Thats a good change, its easier for the secretaries who are looking at you're class as well, and to match you're class on you're application with what it says on the transcripts.

I believe it will be an advantage because you don't have to mess with character restrictions. I know I had troubles when I entered my info. last year.
Good luck!

I see your point and agree with you on this. Perhaps they will have a way for applicants to mark science courses, thus eliminating the need for one of the five people that work at AADSAS to interpret your transcript - a practice that could turn ugly real fast.

I also had a tough time trying to decide what to call classes like "Political influence in Film", "Shakespeare", "Medical sociology", etc. I'm a lib. arts major so I have a lot of random classes and it would have been way easier for me to just put my own names in. AADSAS will calculate your science GPA for you. I didn't know what mine was until they sent me the big pink paper with all my info.

they got rid of course codes? sweet 👍
i am not sure how they will do science gpa's though, i doubt if the applicants will get to mark which ones are and aren't because then if it is questionable people will only mark ones they did well in, so it'll de-standardize people's gpa's. I'm guessing someone at aadsas will have to make the determinations, but it seems like that would take way too long... i'm sure their website/instructions page for next year will explain what they're going to do for the different gpa's.

Sounds like it will be an advantage. 👍 But I guess we will have to see.
