Anyone know? I have received all other secondaries except for this one. This school is currently my #1 choice, although I have roughly the same chances of going there as a snowball would have in hell as I am out of state and don't have amazing stats. My GPA is 3.74 (3.45 BCPM, 3.95 non-sci), and my current MCAT score is 29 (I'm expecting between 30-33 on the Aug test, based on practice scores). Will they wait to even send me a secondary until they receive my Aug scores? On the plus side, I haven't been rejected by them yet. 😀

one of my friends actually got her UCSF secondary before her august MCAT scores came in. She had a 3.9 and great EC's

I thought UCSF sends their secondary to everyone who meets the minimum requirements

they dont. they screen heavily.

Yep, very heavy screening. They only send out about 1400 secondaries.

i got my secondary also before my august scores. similar stats to the one's above. I called the adcom and they told me they use a projection formula to predict scores on pending mcats. don't know much else though. good luck.

derf,

when did you submit your amcas?

submitted june 15, processed june 24, i believe

I was told the schools get your scores about a week before you do. I got my secondaries from two schools just a few days before I got my scores so I took it as a sign that I had done well enough on the MCAT to warrant their attention.

Thats not true, I remember a post by a MCAT staff moderator on emcat.com stating thats a myth.

Myth it may be but I was an MCAT retaker and no one was going to send me a secondary with my crappy first test scores.

Will UCSF at least send me an e-mail if they reject me pre-secondary? I haven't received anything from them yet, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to. 😕

Yeah, I'm anxiously waiting to hear something from these folks. :scared:

I finally got something from them saying they had my AMCAS, but still haven't heard anything. Then, I changed my email address so last week I sent them a note saying that it had changed (a polite prod to get a move-on), they replied that they hadn't sent anything yet but that I should be hearing something within a couple of weeks.

I'll keep you posted...

I really don't think so. They took forever to reject me, and they were the only school to do so without even inviting me to fill out a secondary. I think it's really tough for us non-californians to get a look from them. Actually even if you hit the top of your goal for the august MCAT there is a good chance you still won't recieve even a secondary from them. I say this not to be rude but because I don't want your hopes to be crushed by one very unavailable med program. I guess what I am trying to say is that if you want to pick a basket to put all your eggs in, UCSF is one of the worst possible choices.
If you want to check out my stats, I'm mdapplicant #1489. I didn't here from UCSF until February I think and that was only to tell me that they had decided to not extend an invitation to fill out a secondary.

I took the Aug MCAT last year.

In October I got e-mail from UCSF saying, we sent you an invitation to submit a secondary six weeks ago (before they got my MCAT scores), are you still interested in UCSF? Of course I was, it was my #1 choice. I rushed to submit my secondary but got rejected in January without an interview.

God knows what happened to the first e-mail, and they never sent a paper follow-up like most schools do. In retrospect, I would be sure to check their web site site regularly in case the e-mail goes astray; once I looked at it, it said they had sent out the secondary invitation on Sept. 6.

I agree with rgporter, even with great stats it is very hard for non-CA people to get in. A few lucky ones do, but I wouldn't wait around for the invitation.

Don't worry, I'm not getting my hopes up--I know I almost certainly won't get in there. It seems worth a shot though. MeowMix, I checked the website, it just says that my AMCAS data was received as of 8/20 (I was processed the end of July) and awaiting review to determine if I will receive a secondary, which it says will take 3-10 weeks. So it could be awhile still. It also says they will notify me via snail mail if I don't make the cut for the secondary, so we'll see. At this rate, my Aug scores will probably be there anyway before they review my app. Good luck to everyone else applying there, especially out-of-staters--we really need it! :luck:
