Hi guys,

I was waitlisted at NYMC and rejected elsewhere. I interviewed there in early December and received notification of my waitlist early in March. The webpage never reflected that, but I decided (for kicks) to check it today and it says "4/16/2002 Decision Letter Sent" or something like that.

So my first question is, does that mean I was rejected or does it say the same thing for people who were accepted? My second question is, does that refect my being waitilisted a month earlier, or is that the final decision letter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, of course.

Love,
Will

I'm sorry i can't answer your question, but this is a good opportunity for me to whine. This is what my status page looks like:

Date Application Status
10/31/2001 Application Complete - File Under Review
10/31/2001 Committee Letter received
10/24/2001 Secondary Application Received
10/24/2001 Secondary Application Requested

Now this is one of the earliest secondaries I sent back. What takes them so long? <img border="0" alt="[Pity]" title="" src="graemlins/pity.gif" />

Hi Will,

I'm not sure about NYMC specifically, it probably doesn't mean you're rejected since most waitlists don't move until after May 15th. Oftentimes it seems, a waitlist is considered a final decision (although it seems weird that a "maybe" is considered final), so probably they were just late in updating your status page to reflect your waitlist letter. I'd call them and ask, just to be sure.

I want to whine with you! My status page says the exact same thing and our dates are pretty similar too. If they don't want me, can't they just send a rejection instead of the silent treatment?? Growl.

just so that you guys know, i got a pre-interview rejection today (the letter was dated 4/16).

Count me in as another reject. Did you get the thing about improving MCAT, GPA, medically-realted experiences, and community service too? That was a little harsh.

If I get a rejection letter like this in the mail, I swear I'm going to leave a nasty message to these people! I've been complete since December and am f'in tired of dealing with these types of schools who enjoy making you wait! 😡 😛 😡 😛

I feel much better now.

To those accepted, what does your status page say? I have a feeling that by now, those who've been accepted will not read this page, so I might be best off starting a new thread... hmph.

Sorry I've got to vent.

Dear NYMC,

NE_COrnhusker1 has carefully considered his application to New York Medical College. He regrets to inform you that he will not be attending in August 2002.

He applied to many schools and has many rejection letters. These schools featured strong academics and a commitment to primary care. In this environment it is inevitable many well qualified candidates will consider your school a "back-up" school and are likely to be accepted to a more prestigous institution.

Keep in mind you are rarely the top choice for any applicant. If you do want to be considered in the future you might want to work on the following: Research ranking, Primary Care ranking, NIH funding, and replying to applicants in a timely fashion.

Good luck with accredidation and hopefully I will never be forced to attend.

Sincerely Yours,

NE_Cornhusker1

Ha ha ha. Nice letter!!
I think it got the point across very well.

I'm not 12. Assmunch. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

That guy in the picture was you?! I just didn't think so, because you had referred to the picture as "that little hyper kid". I'm really really sorry, willy. 😳

In any case, it's great to look young and you'll realize it when you get to my age (late 20's).

Those with NYMC rejection letters will find it especially amusing.
