I have inteviews in New York in late November, and I know that sometimes it can get really cold there during November. Would it be appropriate to wear boots ( not the bulky ugly ones, but the ones that look more like shoes) or should I suffer through the cold and wear shoes. Ladies any ideas?
Thanks.

If you mean New York City, it is never cold enough to need boots. If you anticipate a snowstorm, wear boots and change into real shoes once you're indoors.

I was thinking more like Rochester and Albany. I also have some in Pennsylvania.
And maybe this is a stupid question, but I guess that once you change your shoes you have to carry them around. This would be an extra bag.

Iowa tells you to wear winter boots, guess they have not problem with that.

I would say that if you're really worried you should bring both types of shoes and see how you feel once you're out here. I think boots are for when it's really crummy (think snow/heavy rain) out and not so much for just cold. Remember, if it's super cold out, you probably won't spend all that much time outdoors anyway. You could also find some warm socks--they even have really thin ones--and just wear them with your dress shoes.

Definetely bring a scarf! As a former Californian I had no idea what a joy a scarf could be!

Good luck! The northeast isn't quite the tundra it's sometimes made out to be. 😉

This is precisely the problem that galoshes were designed to solve.

I did mostly winter interviews in cold places and did wear boots (dressy kind) to the interviews. It looks totally fine, not to mention it made me nearly 6 feet tall and I towered over most the other women in the room, which can be good and bad i guess....anyhow, it looks fine.
