Anyone placed on the wait list for Wisconsin-Madison? Does anyone know if it is a ranked list and whether there is good movement? I really liked the school and was a little depressed at being waitlisted.

The waitlist is ranked. You will find out until about April or so your spot on the list. There isn't much movement on the waitlist. When you find out your rank, they will tell your chances of being accepted.

Good luck. It's a great school. I interviewed there in December and I haven't heard about a decision yet.

Madison doesn't have rolling admissions. They review everyone's application before they make any decisions on the waitlist, and it typically starts moving in late May. They have pulled as many as 60 from the waitlist in the past, and last year they didn't take anyone. They send out a letter saying things like "we are very interested in having you as a student" and "we believe that we will be able to offer you a position" to the people who rank highly on the waitlist, and those people almost always get in.

The ranking of the waitlist is somewhat rolling (the score an applicant gets during the admissions process is how they're ranked...above 6 or 6.5 (can't remember exact score cutoff) is acceptance, below 5.5 is rejected, 5.5-6 is held until March or April when the remaining acceptances are given and everyone else between 5.5 and the cutoff score is waitlisted. So some years 5.5s will get in and other years they may only get to 5.9 or 5.8s by waitlist movement). I'm guessing on the score cutoffs, but the concept is correct.

This info is available via links from the LCME link from the med school homepage. FYI, UW will not tell you your score ("confidential"), just your # on the waitlist.
