Ok, so i just got an acceptance from Northwestern
😀 :hardy: 😀
(they actually sent it to the guy i shared the hotel room with, then he sent it to me, an hour later I got the real thing! I feel kinda bad for him 😳 )

ok, so I have an interview scheduled in a couple weeks for Rochester. But I'd really rather go to Northwestern.
Should I cancel the interview, maybe open up a spot for someone else?

I did the exact same thing...to the exact same school...for the exact same reason...
🙄

and of course, congratulations on Northwestern.

Thanks! (still grinning ear to ear like a total *******)

where did you get in?

Absolutely! Nobody is going to hold it against you. NU is very different from URochester, so if you really liked NU I doubt URochester is going to convince you to go there.

Congrats on NU... I almost went there two years ago and I still think it's a fantastic place.

Contrats on Northwestern, it's a great school!

But one thing to keep in mind... I was considering canceling my interview to UofR when I got accepted at TriI last year. I loved TriI and I still think it's a fantastic school/program. But like Neuronix said, UofR is very different, and there's always the possibility that you'll be pleasantly surprised by a school.

I ended up choosing UR over TriI and I'm M1 right now and loving it. It doesn't hurt other applicants for you to go to more interviews (although it does hurt other applicants to hold too many acceptances at once), and it definitely won't hurt for you to visit more schools. We'd love to have you come visit us... but regardless of whether or not you come here, best of luck!

Congratulations on your recent acceptance to Northwestern. I'm sure this will brighten up your holidays even more.

Do not hesitate to cancel interviews. It can be done over email or phone, whichever you prefer.

If the U of R interview is paid for, maybe go check it out to see if you're missing anything. However, if you have no interest in going there, don't go. It is hard to interview at places and feign interest. It will, more likely than not, be a waste of your time.

U of R is a good program. But like many good programs, U of R is not for everyone.

Congrats again and best of luck!

First off, thanks everyone.
Definitely the best Hanukah gift EVER. 😀

I'm in NYC, so Rochester is just the drive away. My college roomate was from Rochester, and I've spent some time there. Not a huge fan of the place itself. This is my main motivation for probably withdrawing. The school may be geat, but I just have a hard time seeing myself living up there for 8 years and staying happy.

I'm leaning more and more towards withdrawing. As SeenTheLight said, it's hard to feign interest.
