Hi,

Is it better to withdraw applications for dental schools if my DAT score is very bad? I'm planning to retake it in early January (I know there's actually really really tiny chance). If I don't get in anywhere, I'm going to reapply with my January score. How long does the score last?

Thank you so much!

I am 99.9% on this information
You CANNOT withdraw your application, at least via AADSAS. Besides, if you have already paid for it submitted, it will not have an effect (+/-) when you reapply. Furthermore, on the app. you can state that you plan on retaking the DAT... It is possible to be accepted on the contingency of doing well on your next DAT.

Usually schools only consider DAT scores taken within the past 2 years, but the scores never go away. By that I mean, if you took the DAT in 1998 and in 2005. The dental school "sees' both scores. Whether or not they consider them is as the discretion of the school. I would think that if they are true to form they would not consider the old score.

PS, The most important think about a retake is improvement. So be careful about rushing a retake in January. If you need to take an extra year, do so and then show the DAT who its daddy is (or momma)

Hope this helps
